Arsenal’s Aubameyang saga twists again as Chelsea enter Tottenham talks

The transfer saga involving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Olivier Giroud, and Michy Batshuayi appears to be dangling by a thread.

BBC’s David Ornstein has broken down the deals, which appear to be twisting more than an M. Night Shyamalan blockbuster.

Having agreed to move to Dortmund as part of the deal taking Aubameyang to Arsenal, Giroud changed his mind when Chelsea became interested.

The London club have, though, baulked at Arsenal’s asking price for the Frenchman.

The widely-accepted impression was the first domino would fall and the rest would follow but it seems the deals are more complicated than that.

Rather than going all out for Giroud, Chelsea have attempted to strike a swap deal with Tottenham, offering Michy Batshuayi in exchange for Fernando Llorente.

Batshuayi, though, is not keen on a deal which would see him swap clubs but remain a backup striker.

The Belgian is open to moving to Dortmund as Aubameyang’s replacement but that would require Chelsea signing Giroud before letting him go.

In turn, Dortmund won’t allow Aubameyang to leave the club before securing a replacement.

This leaves Arsenal in a corner. If they want to seal a deal for the Gabonese, they will have to cut their price on Olivier Giroud or hope he can agree to move to Dortmund.

With less than a day until the window closes, things are getting very interesting indeed.
